The ‘Aura Ion’ Charity

The city of Bucharest will soon be booming with thousands of runners and spectators, once again the Aura Ion Association will eagerly take responsibility of a waterpoint providing runner’s relief, but most importantly build upon the fantastic energy and excitement this day always delivers.

As a local charity based here in the heart of Bucharest, we love the social aspect of an on-course waterpoint with our 50+ amazing volunteers, It is a pleasure having the ability to showcase all the work we carry out across Romania to the local community.

Our team of volunteers is the key to our success and the positive feedback  on previous events, always gave us the energy and determination to return to each event with fresh forces; AAI team knows how to offer children smiles, so be sure to visit us at our stand from the central market, you will find us, either organizing workshops and creative face painting activities for children, providing them with colourful balloons and fun, toghter with the magical character mascots, staged by our reliable partner, BluParty, and to the runners who pass our refresh and encouragement.

Who we are?

The Aura Ion Association is a small charity based in Bucharest, which works alongside communities to end distress, poverty and disadvantaged areas throughout Romania. We aim to unite people from all walks of life and inspire them to grow as individuals and as leaders in service to humanity.

Founded in memory of Aurei Ion, Aura was a creative, bright and determined girl who aspired to become a doctor. A quote that Aura used regularly and now becomes the foundation to our ambitions and aspirations: “Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important to do it!”

Before her death, Aura was starting to come into her own and expressing herself as she always imagined – Aura’s ambitions were becoming reality and she was growing into the young doctor she always wanted to be.

She was just on the verge of realizing her dreams and was looking to continue further into her medical career. She had found her wings and was ready to move onto the next chapter in her life. Aura was a positive influence on many in her life and the loss of her has been devastating and felt in so many people’s lives.

Through our voluntary actions undertaken to help the least privileged, we want to keep the example offered by Aura, but also to turn this tragedy, through which Aura has lost her life, in a positive change, Romania is in so much need of.

What We do ?

Because we want to encourage being active as a healthy way of life but also because we want to support sports activities in the city, we are present as early as the autumn of 2015, at all competitions organised by ABRC. We started with a team of 5 runners in 2015, and organically grown to a team of 40 runners and over 50 amazing volunteers who are involved in a range of roles at the race.  We enjoy the support of the public at the NGOS Challenge, winning every event place on the podium.

Through our work, we generate the mobilization of selfless and energic people, which seeks to change the world through their actions. We exist because of our volunteers, they are the ones who want to bring a change needed in the community. The Association ‘Aura Ion’ gives these people the perfect opportunity to accomplish this transformation in the community.

This year, our mission is to help children from disadvantaged backgrounds, to go to school, giving 1000 of our fully equipped rucksacks, with school supplies of the highest quality. Along with other partners, collaborators and volunteers, we work together in supporting the social causes that provide equal opportunities of development, seeking to reduce the risk of dropping out of school in some of the most disadvantaged areas of Romania.

How Can you help?

Come into our team of volunteers and supporters  at the  competitions organised by the ABRC and run or volunteer  for the less privileged children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

It’s no exaggeration to say that without the hard work, co-operation and enthusiasm of our volunteers we would not be able to make a difference in this world. We have plenty of different roles available on the day, from becoming a runner, fundraising funds for the backpacks and school supplies, project and event management, exhibition stand, waterpoint to our great entertainment and cheering point;  as an Aura Ion Association volunteer, you’ll help make a real difference not just at the event but a part of the story to end distress, poverty and reduce school dropout in Romania.
